What is a bigger hurdle in this election - race or sex?

Check out this New York Times Op- Ed piece by Gloria Steinem entitled “Women Are Never Front-Runners” which gives her opinion on the matter.

Once you read the article check out this debate from democracynow.org with the author of the piece, Gloria Steinem, defending her position while, a professor at Princeton, Melissa Harris-Lacewell opposes her assertions about race and sex, and why way in which it plays into the election from the piece. It is a very interesting read and discussion. Enjoy.

No editorializing from you, GVG? Tsk. Tsk. I come here for your point of view.

I thought about editorializing it, but then I thought I’d much rather just put it out there to have you ladies have a discussion about it with none of my opinions influencing your thoughts. GOD! How self-important did that sound? “my opinions influencing your thoughts” Really? My words have the power to influence you people. Right. All four of you whom actually read this shit. LOL.

Anyway, I had sent it out to all my woman intellectuals as an e-mail for an open discussion on the topic. I was hoping the blog post was going to stand as an extinction of the forum for the discussion, but it just didn’t pop off like that. Everyone who did respond, responded directly to me instead of publicly. Speaking of public discussions, check out a great blog I just got put onto about a week ago and have been reading every day since. Think you’d dig it - http://postbourgie.wordpress.com/

P.S. Not sure if you already know about it, but this is a really cool one that I’ve been doing a lot of reading and ranting on as of late as well - http://www.racialicious.com/
